Flag Flying for July Fourth Inspires Community In Aiken
Clarence and Josephine Edmunds will fly their flag on July Fourth. The retired Army Master Sergeant credits his 21 year career and says they display flags on all suitable occasions. Mrs. Edmunds urged others to fly their flags and collaborated with the Aiken Standard for a series on patriotic residents. They moved to Aiken a decade ago for a horse industry job.

Aiken County Approves 10.4 Million Budget Compromise
After weeks of negotiation the Aiken County Council adopted a 10.4 million dollar budget for 1983 04 with no tax increase. Councilman McElhaney opposed landfill fee and salary increases but the plan adds 10 new full time positions and 400 000 dollars will come from charging commercial haulers for dumped waste. Beginning August 1 fiscal year begins Friday.
