Hinckley Says He Was Not Free After Reagan Verdict

John W. Hinckley Jr. told The Washington Post he believes he was insane when he shot President Reagan and three others and did not "beat the rap." He remains confined at St. Elizabeths Hospital and faces a potential release hearing scheduled for August as doctors report on his mental state. Hinckley defended the verdict and said he would not be a danger to himself or society, including the president.

Supreme Court ruling on due on sale clause impacts little locally

In Aiken realtors and S and L executives say yesterday’s Supreme Court decision upholding the due on sale clause will have little effect on business. Donald Murphree of Palmetto Federal Savings and Loan notes the ruling clarifies the practice of calling in a loan when a home is sold and offering a new loan at a higher rate. Murphree says Palmetto Federal has used a composite rate mortgage in such sales for years.
