Nuke Employees Reject Unions at Oconee Plant
350 workers at Duke Power Co. Oconee Nuclear Station voted on Tuesday and Wednesday to reject union representation. Angie Howard said 219 voted against both unions, 127 favored the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers, and four backed the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Ethics Act Violations Pleaded by Three Grand Strand Officials
A year long inquiry into Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority officials ended with no contest pleas from Director Harry Lockwood Utilities Director Johnny Brigman and former Assistant Director Randy Pearce. They waived grand jury proceedings and face fines and restitution. The investigation began in 1978 after a fired employee raised concerns about use of public resources on a Georgetown County plantation and a Washington, DC trip.

A well tended marijuana crop in a Clarendon County cornfield near Manning was uncovered after a SLED plane spotted it. Deputy Sheriff T J Jackson said the plants, six feet tall and 2½ to 3 months old, were found among corn stalks six miles from Manning near New Zion. The street value was estimated at 120000 to 180000 dollars.
