Speculation and margin traders on the New York Stock Exchange
The Journal of Commerce reports fewer than 250 active margin traders in the United States. About one in twenty earn incomes around $3,000, while top “big boys” in pools post speculative profits near 675 percent. Brokers profit through safer trades, last year clearing over 400 million. A high market does not equal real business prosperity as exchange seats have fallen by over 100000 in value since speculation cooled.
