Langley Pond once a toxic waste dump on the Savannah River tributary has become a premier rowing site. Beginning as far back as the 1840s and polluted by industry and sewage, the 250 acre lake improved after the 1979 Horse Creek Wastewater Plant opened. By 1985 EPA progress reports noted healing, with regattas marking a decade of growth.
