Helping Hands charges district over school treatment
Helping Hands, a Foster care group in Aiken County, alleges unfair treatment of its residents at Kennedy Middle School and cites delays in enrollment and improper handling of behavioral concerns. Director Shadie Hall claims IEPs were ignored and students were unfairly labeled while school policies were not applied consistently. The board has sent a packet to Education Superintendent Dr. Linda Eldridge and Board of Education members detailing the alleged violations. The group notes Kennedy Middle School and South Aiken High School are generally cooperative, though relations with Principal George Rogers are strained. Hall states the shelter has not considered moving placements due to Kennedy’s overall quality. See CHARGES, Page 7A.
