Superintendent Defends Budget Rise Amid Staffing Shifts
The district defends a higher budget to meet Education Finance Act goals and reduce pupil teacher ratios. Data show teaching staff rose from 958.8 in 1973 74 to 982.8 in 1976 77 while administrators and support personnel grew to 235 8 in 1976 77. Payroll climbed from 8 669 491 to 11 389 780 with wages up 28.17 percent despite 43.88 percent inflation. Additional costs arise from federal handicapped education mandates and consolidation efforts amid tight maintenance funding.
