Suspect in Lizard Man eyewitness killing in custody

Sumter South Carolina police say 19 year old Lak iem Davar Butler surrendered to authorities in the Wednesday shooting death of 37 year old Christopher Davis. A second suspect 22 year old Anagory Santrell Slater remains at large. A narcotics officer found 10 grams of marijuana and two scales at the home. Davis famed for reporting the Lizard Man sighting at 16 drew local attention and commerce.

Ex trooper gets three years probation for kicking incident

Former South Carolina trooper John Sawyer received three years probation and a year and a day in a halfway house for civil rights violations after a May 2006 chase. The judge acknowledged egregious conduct but allowed time served in a halfway house to count toward the sentence. Sawyer apologized to Sergio Caridi and prosecutors as part of the case arising from a dash cam video showing a kick to the head.
