A vehicle on Brandt Court suffered about 1000 dollars in damage after being broken into between Thursday 7 pm and Friday 6 35 am. A black Nokia 918 phone and cigarette lighter adapter were stolen from a unlocked vehicle on Pine Log Road between 11 30 pm and 11 45 pm Thursday. A $100 gift certificate to a restaurant was taken from a car on Carolina Drive between 10 pm Thursday and 8 30 am Friday with no forced entry. A car pushed into a backyard at 6 30 am Friday rolled into a neighbor’s house causing about 5000 dollars in damage and about 500 dollars to a gas meter. Aiken County deputies arrested Samuel D. Baldwin and Ernesteene P. Baldwin, both of 2159 Silver Bluff Road, on multiple counts including assault with intent to kill and unlawful conduct toward a child. The arrests followed a morning pursuit on Pine Log Road involving a car driven by Mario Parker and Kristy Baldwin. A bullet shattered a window during the incident. all three victims escaped and sought help. The couple were released on bond from the Aiken County Detention Center.
A 31-year-old University of South Carolina student from China was killed in a Thursday afternoon three-vehicle crash on I-20. Shaoyan Yang, of Fichuan Province, died at the scene after her red 2000 Pontiac crossed the median and hit an eastbound 18-wheeler driven by Bobby Ammons of Eufaula, Alabama. The 18-wheeler then struck a westbound gray 1997 Nissan driven by Jeanine Layman of Augusta. All three drivers wore seatbelts.
Aiken County hosts the first Cookin with Celebri ty Chefs fundraiser by the Mental Health Association. Local chefs prepared sample dishes to benefit programs including Welcome Baby Nurture Home and the Drop-In Center. Attendees and organizers praised the event and its community focus.
