One killed in I-20 collision involving three vehicles

A 31-year-old University of South Carolina student died in a three-vehicle crash on I-20 near the 24 mile marker at 2:45 p.m. Thursday after swerving across the median into an eastbound 18-wheeler. The truck then hit a westbound Nissan, sending debris and vehicles into a tree. the driver of the Pontiac died at the scene while the Nissan driver and 18-wheeler operator survived.

Track owners clash with City over McGhee home in Aiken

Bruce and Janice McGhee, owners of McGhees Mile, seek more time to live in a double wide on track property while they plan a permanent home. The two year permit expired and the City Council will consider the issue during the next work session amid debates on residence and development at the Standardbred track.

USC Aiken and USC tuition rise across campuses

The USC system board raises tuition 3.5 percent at the Columbia campus and branches. In state undergraduates pay $64 more per semester at Columbia with added fees including a $15 Strom Thurmond Fitness Center charge. Out of state increases are 3.5 percent. At USCA and USC Spartanburg in state costs rise 7.5 percent and out of state 7.8 percent.

Rain Eases Drought Small Relief Yet Conditions Persist

Rainfall improves drought conditions at Savannah River Site though deficits remain. About 163 inches have fallen this year with a 6.8 inch year to date shortfall. Five days brought 8.1 inches. June deficits trimmed to 1.09 inches. Officials warn fire dangers return without further rain and note many areas stay dry.
