Parkway opens vital link between Augusta and Aiken County
A bridge linking North Augusta and Augusta with four lanes and a five foot divider opened after 30 years of planning. Sen Greg Ryberg and Augusta Mayor Bob Young praised the cross state project as a catalyst for regional transportation, rail relocation, and pedestrian bike connections. Local officials and Georgia leaders attended the ceremony as traffic lined up for the first crossings. Lt Tim Pearson noted patrol responsibilities and safety planning for the new bridge.
