Drowning claims two in Aiken County this year
The second drowning this year occurred in North Augusta when Terry Powell 40s and a grandfather, drowned while attempting to rescue his grandson in the Savannah River near a sandbar. Witnesses reported a distress call at 6 30 p m and divers recovered the body about 8 30 p m. No alcohol detected and water was 71 degrees with strong currents.
