Mason City horse euthanized after infection at Penn Center
Mason City, Dogwood Stable's top 2 year old, was put down Thursday night after a foot infection worsened quickly. The colt, winner of the Aiken Trials and Keeneland, was scratched June 7 at Belmont after a kick. Damaging infection led to the decision at New Boston Center, UPenn. Dogwood president Dot Campbell called the demise distressing. Purchased for 170000 dollars, Mason City had won The Gaver Trophy in the Trials and his second Keeneland win on April 26.
