Aiken’s Heart Program Rules Eased for New Services
The S C Department of Health and Environmental Control approved an updated open heart surgery certificate of need plan. New programs must project 200 cases annually within three years and avoid reducing existing facilities’ caseload below 850, with minimum 350 cases at neighboring units within 60 miles. The change helps Aiken Regional Medical Center gain approval and could open doors for other hospitals.
