Rep Lindsey Graham calls federal handling of Social Security funds a crime-like move. He and 52 co sponsors back the Social Security Preservation Act of 1996 to place yearly excess revenue in a trust and invest it, arguing current practice drains the trust and misuses funds.

The Vernon R. Ford estate donates 1 million to USC Aiken for scholarships, with interest funding ongoing. Dr. Robert Alexander credits Henry Summerall Jr. for guiding the planning and notes the estate founder's 42 years with Du Pont. Aiken County Planning Commission approved creating an advisory committee to study a controversial LD zoning amendment. The panel will include three commissioners, three citizens, and the County Council Development Committee. The LD plan targets transportation corridors and sensitive areas, with prohibitions on mobile homes, landfills, waste facilities, jails, and other uses, while allowing many building types. The move follows months of debate and opposition from the Aiken Business Alliance, with donors and developers seeking broader participation before land use controls are imposed. The nine-member board previously tabled the measure in April amid pressure from business interests.
A rising USC medical student chose to intern with his father, Dr. Ray Vaughters, in Aiken for two weeks this summer. The program, run by the Family Health Foundation of South Carolina, aims to spark interest in family medicine amid a physician shortage, especially in rural areas.
