DOE Will Monitor Six Major Waste Sites
The U S Department of Energy will closely monitor six major hazardous waste sites at the Savannah River Plant to determine necessary cleanup action. The agreement with South Carolina DHEC includes a $50,000 penalty for groundwater standard violations and outlines ongoing information exchange. Contamination stems from decades of disposal, notably in the M Area, with cleanup efforts already underway.
