Aiken Man Charged in Child Abuse Case
Richard Simpkins 31 was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child after an extension cord hit incident. Police say the abuse occurred when the juvenile, upset about missing the bus, went to his aunt’s house and Simpkins followed, entering the residence and harming him. The case was referred to DSS for evaluation.

Aiken County Sheriff's Office and Aiken Public Safety report Monday thefts and property damage across multiple neighborhoods. Incidents include a $700 theft and iPhone after a ride on Wagon Tong Road, camera gear from a Helen Lane residence, a damaged tire on Main Street, a green mower on Church Street, two car tire slashes on Ambassador Drive, an A/C unit from Stillwater Road, a trash container at Ridge Crest properties, a bag with a wallet metha done and cellphone from a Richland Avenue business, a broken door frame on Croft Avenue with a roommate’s flat screen TV stolen, and theft of water and washing fluid at a Richland Avenue store. A neighbor threatened a dog owner on Jehnssee Drive with harm, saying the dogs would turn up dead.

Summer filmmaking camp offers hands on lessons for youth
Aiken Film Alliance presents a weeklong summer camp for middle and high school students at USC Aiken Etherredge Center July 17 21 from 9 am to 3 30 pm for grades 5 10.
