Heat hazards peak in hot Carolina summers with risk from heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Stay indoors during peak heat, wear light fabrics, hydrate with fluids, and seek rapid medical help for heat stroke symptoms.
The record notes births at Aiken Community Hospital on June 14 to 18 for Moseley Richardson Price DeWitt and others with parent names and grandparents. It also lists real estate transfers including Warrenville near 1500 to Purley McGee, Lakeside parcel 1,451 acres to Morton Builders, and several lot sales across Gem Lake Estates and Laurel Lakes with prices from 69,500 to 105,250.
James Lewis Woodward of Aiken earned the Bronze Star Medal for valor after rescuing six men under enemy fire at a river crossing in Vietnam in May 1970. Drafted June 4, 1969, he recalls a rough first day of basic training and the deadly mines that haunted his unit.
Five people were arrested and charged with housebreaking and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature after entering Anna Mae Bowman’s apartment at 8020 Hampton House and beating her. Bowman received 15 stitches at Aiken Community Hospital. The suspects are Georgia Mae Harley Joyce Ann Harley Elaine Harley Theresa Harley and Maurice Harley all connected to Hampton House or Lincoln Avenue locations. They were jailed in Aiken County.
The Sand Hills Chapter of the ACLU of SC hosts a panel on Religion in the Public Schools at 3 p.m. Sunday at the H Odell Weeks Activities Center 1700 Whiskey Road.
