Aiken County Coroner Sue Townsend reports Charlie Priester 39 of Route 1 Box 64 was killed in a single vehicle crash on Silver Bluff Road. He was northbound and apparently lost control on a sharp curve near Taylor last night.
Forecasters expect the official start of summer with a 40 percent rain chance tomorrow. Tonight carries a 20 percent chance of precipitation. Expect cloudy spells tonight and tomorrow with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. Friday and Saturday look sunny and hot with warm nights and similar temperatures.

A morning ballot recount in District 86 yields 784 for McMillan and 745 for Willis, with 741 for Weeks, producing a runoff between Ted Willis and Terry McMillan. Judge Rodney Peeples releases 60 Aiken County boxes from SLED custody and orders an expedited recount amid election irregularity claims.
The three week dry spell and high temperatures devastate crops across the county. Corn yields are already down 20 to 30 percent and soybeans remain unplanted as ground stays hard. Warnings of possible disaster without rain in seven days accompany advice to water shrubs and lawns regularly.
The Aiken Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend to the City Council adoption of a landscaping and tree ordinance. If approved, the ordinance applies citywide to all property and buildings with renovations over 50 percent of value, requiring integrated landscape planning and protection of trees.
