Plane Aid Helps Nab Aiken County Robbery Suspect
A three county operation led by Deputy Hartzog using a local plane aided in an arrest within four hours after the armed robbery and murder of 58 year old Corley Weatherford at a Sil ver Bluff Road country store. Norman Jessie Fields, 19, of Grovetown Ga, is jailed in Aiken County on armed robbery and murder charges. The suspect was found in a Grovetown residence after Gloria Jean Maxwell directed authorities to Fields. The case involved a 1966 LaSabre Buick with a damaged hood linked to Fields through Barbara Jean Sessions. The arrest occurred at 7:30 pm and Fields was returned to Aiken County. The Weatherford store served as a local farmer meeting place.
