A Beech Island girl, four, drowned Saturday afternoon in a Jackson pool while playing with her eight-year-old brother. The unidentified Riverbend Drive resident and others assisted after she slipped into deep water around 2:25 p.m. She was revived at the scene, transported to University Hospital, and pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m. An autopsy was performed in Newberry.

The Aiken Youth Correctional Center will relocate to the new Trenton facility on June 26 after delays from weather and inmate labor shortages. Warden George Hagan cites a limited skilled inmate pool but notes cost control and quality. City Manager Steve Thompson expresses eagerness to finish the site and a good working relationship with the department.
