Swamp People advance ticket sales reach capacity due to strong community response. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the Convocation Center box office on Saturday, the event day.
A local woman, 21 year old Lacie Doolittle of Wagener, faces felony DUI charges after a 59 year old man died from injuries from an Interstate 20 crash near mile markers 11 to 12. The 2000 Honda driven by Doolittle ran off the road and struck the victim near his disabled truck, sending him to Georgia Health Sciences University where he died. The Honda occupants were not seriously hurt. Authorities are unsure of the vehicle speed at impact.
The new downtown soda parlor opened about two weeks ago and has been a hit with a steady flow of customers. Owner Betsy Simons says the business has attracted many locals. The Cavero family Dean Shannon and daughter Olivia have visited several times since opening. Dean offered a quick compliment and praised Betsy’s service.
Breakfast is served around 8 a.m. Tuesday to Sunday at 159 Laurens St. NW. The grill closes at 3 p.m. daily except Sunday. The soda fountain operates until 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and until 6 a.m. Sunday. For more information call 226-0078.
New Daydream Films brings an independent project to town this weekend, shooting Nowhere a drama about con artist Drake Ryan at LuLu's Inn run by a troubled mother and her son Maynard. director Ryan Thomas says the house harbors more than it appears.
The South Carolina Outdoor Expo at USC Aiken Convocation Center offers booths for outdoor gear from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. The Landry duo from History's Swamp People will meet fans 11 am to 3 pm with photos and autographs. Tickets are $8 at the box office. children 3 and under free.
