Fed signals earlier rate hikes as inflation rises
The Federal Reserve indicated it may begin raising its benchmark rate sooner than planned, forecasting two hikes by late 2023 after previously signaling no hikes before 2024. Chair Jerome Powell said discussions continue on tapering bond purchases of 120 billion dollars monthly, with rates near zero since 2020. The decision follows inflation upticks and higher bond yields as stocks retreated from highs.
