Campbell Signs Brewpubs Into Law

Gov Carroll Campbell signed legislation allowing brewpubs to sell beer brewed on site in South Carolina. The bill passed the General Assembly on June 2, the session’s final day. Only Georgia Montana and Mississippi still ban brewpubs. Brewpubs and microbreweries grow in popularity as shoppers seek higher quality products.

Aiken Moves Ahead on State Career Track Shift

Gov. Carroll Campbell signed the School-to-Work Transition Act as Aiken County began its four year head start. State law aims to end the general track by 1996 1997 with Tech Prep courses moving students from general physics to physics for the technologies and strengthening applied academics. Campbell touted funding and raised standards while noting many districts already blend school to work elements in career education.

Couple and Daughter Fined for Animal Mistreatment in Aiken

Aiken County Magistrate Court fined John Hresko, Jean Hresko, and daughter Nancy over 3700 dollars after guilty pleas to three counts each of mistreating dogs and cats. Chief Judge Max Meek ordered monthly inspections of the Springfield Church Road home for a year and warned of reinstating 91 suspended cases if violations recur. Animal control found nearly 100 dogs and cats at the residence on March 25.
