State Economy Suffered Lackluster April in South Carolina
South Carolina faced the biggest monthly drop in textile and textile related jobs in a year as the Economy Indicators report warned of a lackluster April. The state lost 1,400 nonagricultural jobs, including 1,000 in textiles, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 6.9 percent. Despite some gains in nonfarm openings, new business incorporations, and residential construction, economists characterized April as not good and broadly discouraging.
