Wet start mars Special Olympics State Equestrian Show
Persistent rain delayed ceremony and start at AL Keen Horse Park in Aiken for the Special Olympics State Equestrian Show. Area II riders from Aiken, Edgefield and Saluda counties, with athletes including Dawson Faughn and Hampton Shuler, prepared 12 weeks at Great Oak Therapeutic Riding Center. The event featured the open competition in English and Western Equitation and drew more than 30 riders from across South Carolina.

Owners Richard and Joan Mason of Found Treasures of Aiken on Banksmill Road promote donations for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Since September they have raised thousands with in-store collection boxes and a matching pledge, thanking a generous community and a child who donated from her purse. The Aiken Shrine Club hosts a July 21 steak dinner to further aid the hospital, with proceeds supporting transport and medical care for kids. шат

Beech Island man gets 10 years for 2017 domestic violence
Craig Alan Wallin pleaded guilty to a May 2017 domestic violence incident in Beech Island in which he used a shotgun to breach a home, assaulted the victim, and fired into a door. He received a 10 year prison term with a restraining order and firearm-related charges dismissed as part of the plea.
