Three parcels fronting Richland Avenue and Newberry Street, once eyed for a downtown parking garage, were bought for 8 million per Aiken County records. The trio includes 203 Richland Ave West 27 Richland Ave West and 113 Newberry St SW and forms a compact square along Richland Avenue.

VFW Post retires flags on National Flag Day in Aiken
VFW Post 5877 in Aiken held its annual National Flag Day ceremony retiring about 75 American flags. Post commander Dick Chelchawski noted the community donations and the ritual of respectfully burning retired flags, while Mayor Osban praised the flag as a symbol of liberty and justice. WWI veterans Walter Chelhowsk and Hal Peck lit the first two flames.
