SBC Withdraws Alliance as Bush Praises Faith Leader
Aiken pastor Jack Graham praised Bush as a man of personal faith during a Southern Baptist Convention session. The SBC, with 16.3 million members, voted to withdraw from the Baptist World Alliance, a move that removes 300000 in next year’s budget. Denton Lotz and Paige Patterson cited concerns over liberal drift and schism as the alliance represents 46 million Baptists across 211 denominations.
