County considers 3 percent accommodations tax and tattoo–parlor rules

Aiken County Council plans a 7 p.m. meeting to weigh a 3 percent accommodations tax on room rates outside city limits to fund cultural and tourist projects. The measure, proposed by Kathy Rawls, could raise about $100,000 annually and funds may support the Aiken County Historical Museum and the proposed train depot and Center for African American History, Art and Culture. A separate ordinance would regulate tattoo parlor locations once legalized, restricting them to UD zones, 500 feet from homes, churches, schools, historic sites, or parks, and reviewed by the Planning Commission with action possible in August.
