Eight year old Chad L Brenner received a 39541.55 refund check from the IRS but his father says the payment was a clerical error. IRS staff reportedly doubted the claim and delayed action as they sorted out the overpayment.

Du Pont alleges the Department of Energy breached a 1984 agreement to reimburse about 64 million dollars in severance pay for Savannah River Site workers. DOE officials denied the claim May 30 and Du Pont filed suit June 2 in U.S. District Court in Washington, saying the DOE ignored contractual obligations and mischaracterized the agreement as only an arrangement to disagree. The case hinges on the cutoff date of October 1, 1985, and the treatment of severance earned before then, with the outcome potentially lengthy and complex.
