In St Joseph Missouri a robber demanded a bank bag from a Bank of St Joseph credit union employee outside a bank. He fled with the bag but the contents were payroll and government checks stamped for deposit only and considered worthless to the thief.
Oscar the eight inch South American red Oscar swam on its side in a Corona del Mar High School classroom tank three hours before a 4.5 magnitude quake near Montebello. Biology teacher Ron Schnitger says the fish has predicted 15 to 20 quakes before. Skeptics note normal fish behavior and modest damage from the temblors.

Beijing authorities keep border guards on alert as Fang Lizhi and Li Shuxian shelter in the U S Embassy to avoid arrest. The government says it has arrested over 1,000, banned independent groups, and allowed police to shoot to quell unrest. Independent leaders reportedly began turning themselves in.
Westinghouse officials say they are making real progress two months into running the Savannah River Site despite rumors, office space shortages, and complex restart preparations for three nuclear reactors. James S. Moore, president of Westinghouse Savannah River Co., told the Aiken Rotary Club that WSRC replaced Du Pont Co. on April 1 as contractor.
Westinghouse Savannah River Co aims to boost local business by simplifying purchasing, consolidating departments, and creating a Vendor Development Group. The program, targeting vendors within 50 miles, emphasizes small and disadvantaged businesses and outreach through chambers of commerce.
The Aiken City Council adopted a resolution to pursue a 5 million dollar federal loan for a three mile southwestern interceptor sewer line on the south side. The move updates the 201 Engineering Feasibility Plan and awaits DHEC approval. The council also awarded bids totaling over 780 thousand dollars for water treatment and utility improvements including a Pine Log Road plant expansion and a one million gallon tank.
