Aiken Approves 73.9 Million Dollar Budget 2017 18
Aiken City Council approved a 73.9 million dollar budget for 2017 2018 in a unanimous vote. The plan increases capital expenditures by 17.9 million from last year and includes 750 000 for a Renaissance parking garage and 250 000 to install Hampton Avenue sidewalks. The sidewalk funds come from reallocating 250 000 from Dougherty Road project. Five residents opposed the parking garage and Renaissance funding.

Aiken Receives 107000 Seed Grant for Tree Survey
The Aiken Land Conservancy has contributed 107200 dollars to start phase one of a city wide tree survey. The grant supports inventory of about 16000 trees including those along parkways. President Joanna Dunn Samson praised the partnership with the city and donor Mr and Mrs Robert Johnston.
