SC State joins suit over segregated higher education system
An Orangeburg attorney says SC State University may be a plaintiff or defendant as current and former SC State students sue the state and the Commission on Higher Education. The suit alleges duplication of SC State programs at other public universities hurts enrollment and finances, with debt near 24 million and a new board in place after lawmakers removed the previous trustees. The filing seeks monetary damages and a mediator to remedy alleged segregation in higher education. Glen Walters comments on SC State’s potential role.
