Flag Day Summer Fun Fest opens in Aiken downtown
The first Flag Day Summer Fun Fest begins at 9 30 a m with a flag raising at the Aiken Municipal Building. A pet parade is canceled due to heat though many activities run until 3 pm including flag exchange, flag display lessons, architec ture and History Hunt, face painting, cookie decorating, bike safety demos, water fun from an ADPS fire truck, Army vehicles from 450th Army Reserve, and a watermelon seed spitting contest for two age groups with prizes.

Identity released for fire fatality in New Ellenton
The New Ellenton woman who died in a mobile home fire has been identified as Susan Nicole Smith, 41, of 301-D Stanley Drive. Autopsy shows she died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns. She was alone in the mobile home. The fire began in the kitchen. The SLED Arson Team investigates the cause. not believed to be arson, with results expected in days.

Ellenton Exhibition to honor town moved for SRS
