Building code enforcement in Aiken aims to protect life and property

James Jordan of the Fire Prevention Bureau told the Aiken Kiwanis Club that the bureau enforces the citys building codes to regulate design and construction. Commercial work over thirty thousand dollars requires a state contractor license. residential work under ten thousand does not. Inspectors visit foundations, insulation, electrical and plumbing during and after construction and ensure smoke detectors are installed. The bureau also investigates every fire and works with the Housing Authority, inspecting every business twice yearly. Ed Becker leads the Kiwanis club and Carey Moore chairs programs.
