Bicentennial Special Satire Important To Colonial Music
Washington musicologist Gillian Anderson, backed by a $20,000 NEH grant, catalogued 1,455 colonial era lyrics from 1773 to 1783 and organized the Colonial Singers and Players to perform early American music. The study links satire and music across secular and sacred works, noting regional and denominational variation and early Yankee Doodle variants.

Workman recalls South Carolina home rule in past era
Clemson AP Workman, State editorial analyst, tells teachers at Taft seminar that local government in SC once operated under home rule but white leaders ended it around 85 years ago to curb black influence. He cites 1868 county commissioner plan, Tillman era power shift, and 1895 constitution excluding blacks. He also notes 1972 judicial reform and ongoing legislature debates. The talk is part of a two week seminar. The Antarctic ice sheet's melt could hypothetically sustain the Mississippi River flow for 50 000 years.
