Police troops rounded up 213 students in Rangoon's pagoda district during five days of protests against President Ne Wi's military government. Sit ins were ordered closed by 6 p.m. at colleges while Rangoon Radio banned gatherings. Unrest also reported in Mandalay with leaders denying Communist backing.
President Ford aims to appoint a majority of the 11 Cabinet members with the expected Senate confirmation of Stanley Hathaway as secretary of the interior. Hathaway, 50, a Wyoming Republican and former two term governor, would be the sixth Ford appointee. His nomination won Interior Committee approval May 21 by 10 to 4 amid questions on his environmental record and ties to a Torrington bank.
American astronauts defend the planned July 15 linkup of Apollo and Soyuz as safe, countering critics who warn of dangers from the Soviet space record. They note reported fire hazards have been addressed and the mission will exchange crews for a few hours.

Omaha police investigate theft of more than ten tons of submarine batteries from a display along the Missouri River. The Greater Omaha Military Historical Society says 126 batteries weighing over 400 pounds each and valued at 125 dollars were taken from a submarine during maintenance and left on the ground nearby.
