Westinghouse Wake honors nuclear milestones in 20th century work
A quilt inspired by George Westinghouse and milestones in nuclear history will be displayed at the wake and later at the Aiken Center for the Arts. The event, titled Westinghouse Wake, occurs Saturday at 7:30 pm at Houndslake Country Club with a jazz band and eulogies. Tickets are $20.

Series of local thefts and break-ins reported across area
Police logged multiple incidents including a vehicle break-in on Pinecrest Drive in Belvedere with a thief stealing cash from a wallet, a garage burglary on Howlandville Road in Warrenville, and electronics taken from Shady Rest Road home. A Beech Island attempted armed robbery at Eagle Express ended when a bystander used a can to strike the suspect. The Aiken Planning Commission will consider two rezoning requests and one variance today. A 10 631 acre area between Lincoln Avenue and Cushman Drive is proposed to move from R 1 to R IM, and a 3 acre site at 138 Greenwood St SW would shift from R 2 to R 41. An application from Woodside Development Limited Partnership seeks a variance for a dead end street longer than 1 000 feet in Woodside Plantation. The meeting is at 6 p m in the Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 214 Park Ave. North Augusta. David Stuart of North Augusta won a Judges Choice Award at Arts Atlantica in Ocean City.
