Pilot Found Dead In Missing Plane

A body found in the wreckage of a single engine airplane is believed to be Robert Bono, 54, of Swainsboro, Georgia, though autopsy confirmation is pending. The search continues for other missing persons after the Tuesday incident near Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Statues Join Hopelands Beauty in Aiken Hopeland Gardens

The Friends of Hopelands and the City of Aiken acquired garden sculptures to surround the reflecting pools and fountains at Hopeland Gardens. Two four foot statues replaced earlier Iselin Estate pieces, cost about 500 dollars. Iselin bequeathed the estate to the city in 1971 for a formal garden.

Negligence Alleged in Redcliffe School Bus Attacks

Rita Mousel says Aiken County school administrators ignored repeated assaults on her son Adam during the 1992-98 school year at Redcliffe Elementary. Five attackers, welts and a broken pair of glasses were reported, with ER visits to MCG in Augusta and a doctor urging a school placement change. Sheriff’s Office records confirm incidents at times.

Church Sues To Force Minister From Pulpit

Beech Island based Silver Bluff Missionary Baptist Church sues its pastor Rev J D Shaw after voting him out two months earlier. The May 25 filing by attorney Richard L Pearce in the Second Judicial Circuit Common Pleas Court also names Julie Ann Washington who helps with church finances.
