Cellular Phone of Aiken Augusta opens vast area for service
Augusta based Cellular Phone of Aiken Augusta is the only local carrier licensed by the FCC to serve the four county Central Savannah River area. By June 15 the system spans 1933 square miles from Thomson to New Ellenton and Clarks Hill Lake to Hephzibah with digital microwave, fiber optics, and a Type II interconnection with BellSouth for cost savings. Subscribers join the nation’s largest cellular network nationwide.
