Aiken Trainers See Belmont Hopes Dwindle After New Jersey Derby
Belmont Stakes hopes for Aiken trained horses dwindle as Hale and Zulu Tom falter in the New Jersey Derby. Riva Ridge and Key To The Mint lead the contenders with Withers winner’s Ruritania misfiring in New Jersey. Other Aiken runners shine though with Rose Chapeau and A Khale winning for Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Nelson Asiel respectively. Rocky Mount matches Belmont track record on turf, while Queen Pat and A glimmer show promise. Cannonero II falters in the Metropolitan Mile and may miss the Suburban Handicap return.
