Southeast states sue NC over nuclear waste dump dispute
Four Southeastern states and the Southeast Compact Commission seek 90 million in sanctions against North Carolina for withdrawing from the regional low level radioactive waste plan. They say North Carolina breached the compact and push for repayment of 80 million plus a 10 million fine, noting about 190 million spent with little result. The case, already twice before the Supreme Court, targets obligations to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia and others, amid broader court battles over a planned Wake County site.
