Aiken to hear first budget reading for 2016 17 and Phase I park plans
City Council will hold a special meeting and work session to review the 2016 17 budget and set a new millage rate while advancing Phase I of Northside Park. Jessica Campbell says final amenity lists will be decided as traffic studies proceed. Phase I includes a 4000 seat football field and amphitheater among other features with an estimated 2.8 million cost. The session starts at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 214 Park Ave.

Judge to rule on Windsor road case in 30 days
The Windsor road abandonment case may be decided within a month. Plaintiffs seek to close about 2 miles of Oak Ridge Club Road and 1 mile of Old Bell Road due to vandalism and speeding. Defendants include Aiken County and SCDOT though SCDOT did not object to closure in April.

Lisa Caroline Marshall Powell, age 58, of Aiken, died Tuesday after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, James Powell, two daughters, and a sister. A memorial service will be held Friday at First Presbyterian Church.
