Aiken County Council backs DOE plan on Savannah River cleanup
Aiken County Council endorsed a Department of Energy proposal to accelerate nuclear waste cleanup at the Savannah River Site by leaving high level sludge in aging storage tanks with a protective grout. The plan faces Senate opposition and would modify the 1982 Nuclear Waste Policy Act to avoid moving wastes to Yucca Mountain, Nev. Chairman Ronnie Young will send a letter supporting the plan to Sen. Lindsey Graham.
