Two School Buses Collide in Salley, 14 Children Hospitalized
In Salley on Old Homestead Road two school buses collided head on as they traveled opposite directions. Sandra Jenkins Mayes, driving the bus with two special education students and an aide, was charged with driving on the wrong side of the road. Margaret Woods' bus carried 12 regular students and Woods was trapped but later stabilized at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

SRS Picked as Interim Store for Spent Nuclear Fuel
Energy Secretary Hazel O Leary names Savannah River Site as one of three national sites to receive seven metric tons of spent nuclear fuel over 40 years. Idaho National Laboratory and Hanford near Richland were also chosen.
