State approves prisons barracks and probation centers plan
South Carolina officials say construction will begin on three 600 bed prisons three 96 bed temporary housing units and two shock probation centers after the Budget and Control Board cleared the projects The board also funds Clemson University fire program studies taxes revenue and adds 40 full time jobs across five agencies with three medium security prisons totaling 82 500 000 in Richland and Marlboro and Allendale counties scheduled bids pending two month occupancy for barracks at three sites near Spartanburg Columbia and Ridgeville

Varied Causes Blamed In Crash That Killed Columbia Surgeon
The NTSB announced a final report on the January 17 1985 crash near Johnson City Tennessee that killed orthopedic surgeon Emmett M Lunceford Jr University of South Carolina trainer and two others. Investigators cited engine maintenance issues weather and pilot error with Lunceford making poor flight decisions and attempting a stall recovery before the right engine failed and the plane crashed. Lunceford's widow has filed a 14.6 million lawsuit against Teledyne Continental Aerospace Midlands Aviation Bendix Engine Products.
