A public hearing is set for tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Room 107 at USC Aiken to discuss areas of the Winter Colony to be included in the National Register of Historic Places. Register staff will answer questions and maps of proposed included areas will be available.
The U S Army Signal Corps Band Crooked River will perform at Hopeland Gardens tonight at 7 as part of the summer concert series. From Fort Gordon Augusta the group plays 19th century New Orleans ragtime and rain provisions move the show to South Aiken High if needed. The venue sits at Whiskey Road and Dupree and is sponsored by the Aiken Recreation Department.
North Augusta plans a new elementary school on a 25.45 acre site behind North Augusta Plaza including Mealing Field. The property, bought for 203 600, is recorded soon. Construction to start by September with completion aimed for the 1985 fall session.
North Augusta City Council meets at 7 30 p m to decide whether to appeal a July injunction blocking construction of a 500 000 gallon water tank near the Edgefield line Meantime the panel considers annexing 1787 acres from Belvedere toward Ascanga Lake Road for a mixed use project with 3000 homes a new water tower and a public safety substation If the appeal fails the city will seek alternative tank sites per City Administrator Chris Martin The injunction follows a suit by Edgefield County Water and Sewer Authority claiming the tank would encroach on its service area
The forecast shows more rain tonight with an 80 percent chance as temperatures rise from the 60s to the low 70s. Tomorrow, rain chance lowers to about 60 percent with a high near 80 and a tonight low in the upper 60s.

A severe thunderstorm Saturday afternoon caused outages in western Aiken Graniteville and along S C 421 Horse Creek Valley. A tree limb fell near Richland Avenue early Sunday, cutting power to areas to Morgan Street and Kalmia Plaza from 6 45 a m to 7 30 a m. An accident near Aiken High School toppled a power pole briefly. Aiken Electric Cooperative also reported outages across a wide area following lightning hitting a main line around 5 25 p.m. Outages lasted just over an hour in Eureka Moneta Couchton and part of New Ellenton.
