Beech Island Man Charged After Deputy Assault

A Beech Island man, Dave Dwayne Andrew Butler, 32, was charged after resisting arrest and assaulting a sheriff's deputy in Aiken County. Deputy Rutland pursued him from River Bend Drive around 12:20 am, finding Butler near a residence with a marijuana odor red pouch. Butler fled, tackled, and struggled, injuring the deputy before being arrested and held at the county detention center. Investigators found marijuana and prescription drugs in Butler's pouch.

Hit-and-run crash causes long power outage in Banks Mill area

A CA hit-and-run crash early Monday near Banks Mill Road and Lyon Drive damaged a Mercedes-Benz, a utility pole, and a transformer. Police say the vehicle, linked to a highly intoxicated registered owner, accelerated away after impact, causing over 200 power outages in Aiken County. Utilities restored power by noon. The crash remains under investigation.
