Roy Warner Memorial Park hosted the Planter's Pride Festival with local agriculture promotion and family activities. Park supervisor Brian Meixner praised community support and the growing event as attendees enjoyed lemonade, corn dogs, burgers, shrimp and grits, and music by the Amazing Grace Gospel Singers, Joseph Pascarella, and a DJ.
NOAA meteorologist Dan Miller says July temperatures at Bush Field Augusta average 90.7 with 71.9 low, below prior-year highs of 92.1. The CSRA may see three to four days above normal with highs in the high 90s and a potential heat advisory Monday, as heat index nears 105 degrees or more.
Habitat for Humanity Women Build volunteers built a playhouse sold tickets at Lowe’s. Tom Brown won the raffle and donated the playhouse back for Habitat’s Sept 24 auction. Organizers expect to raise over $3,000 for a future home, with fall work and October building plans.
Kimberly-Clark announced a restructuring plan that may close up to 20 facilities and cut about 6,000 jobs by end of 2008. The Beech Island plant, employing around 1,200, was not specified. Officials expect a 10 percent net workforce reduction and plan to close about 20 facilities with four more streamlined.
