Ventures Industrial Park nears final touches in Aiken

City officials complete the Ventures Industrial Park infrastructure south of Aiken Municipal Airport as Newman Technology, a Mansfield Ohio exhaust systems maker, begins four production lines with 80 staff and plans two more lines by August. The $15 million plant aims for 100 workers by year end and a spring 2002 grand opening. Coca-Cola Bottling may join Ventures. a 10 acre land sale supports a storm pond.

Let's Talk Organization Encourages Girls to Communicate

A new group in North Augusta called Lets Talk aims to boost self confidence and goal setting for middle and high school girls. Led by Paulette Rouse, it plans meetings at Riverview Park Activities Center starting Sept 18 at 7 pm to gather topics and involve teens in shaping future sessions. Community volunteers and school staff will address peer pressure, relationships, etiquette, finances, and personal wellbeing while offering mentoring and confidential counseling if needed.

Aiken Habitat near milestone for 10th local home

Aiken Habitat for Humanity approaches its 10th local house with construction a few weeks away. Since its 1989 charter, volunteers, civic groups and sponsors have funded, built and maintained homes in the CSRA. Executive director Habard Church leads efforts with support from Sylvia Price and St. John’s United Methodist. A cooperative project with the city may frame the next build, and a retail store at 2915 Harden Drive helps cover expenses. For details call 642-9295.

Hopelands Swing Band Swings Into Summer Concert

Hopelands Garden hosts Swingsation a big band of eight at 7 p.m. tonight as part of the Summer Concert Series. Catherine Stapleton will sing with the band. classics include In the Mood and Blue Skies. Sponsored by Aiken Regional Medical Centers with parking at Rye Patch and Dupree Street. Ridge Arts Council stages Dylan Thomas Under Milk Wood play

Ridge Arts Council opens its 2001 season with Dylan Thomas Under Milk Wood at Haynes Auditorium Leesville on July 27 28 and August 3 4. Curtain at 730 pm tickets cost bio. Batesburg Leesville High School students portray the roles.
